BBR 1:18 Ferrari SF90 Spider (Magma Red & Black) – Review

he SF90 Spider Magma Red/Black is one of BBR’s most striking editions. Its deep red-to-black gradient immediately catches your eye, and in person it’s just as vibrant as in photos. In this review I’ll break down how this limited-run model (1:18 scale, resin, 90 pieces) stacks up to the real car – from its two-tone paint and sharp details to how it feels handling this hybrid Ferrari’s contours on your desk.

Exterior & Paint – 9/10

The color is the star of the show. BBR’s Magma red fades seamlessly into gloss black at the front – a true hand-painted gradient that shifts under light. In hand I could feel the smooth, high-quality finish on every panel. The body shape is sculpted perfectly, with tight panel gaps around the doors and engine cover. Black carbon-look pieces (side skirts, splitter) pop against the red. Even the small Ferrari shields are crisply painted. Overall, the model nails the SF90’s aggressive look and unique two-tone scheme.

Detail & Accuracy – 8/10

BBR loaded the SF90 with authentic touches. The multi-spoke wheels match the real car’s design and wear rubber tires – a nice premium touch on this resin model. Yellow brake calipers behind the wheels are neatly painted. The taillights, exhaust tips, and tiny badges are all spot-on. I noticed the finned diffuser and vents under the rear spoiler are sharply defined. The only thing missing is fine underbody detail (common for resin models). Inside the engine bay (under the closed engine cover) you can’t see much, but I trust it’s accurately molded given BBR’s track record. Overall, it looks extremely accurate for a display model.

Interior & Features – 7/10

Peeking through the open cockpit, the interior holds its own. The seats and upper trim are finished in red (matching the exterior theme), with black dashboard and console. The seats even show some stitching pattern. The dash and steering wheel shapes are correct, and there are small bits like the gear-selection buttons on the console. It’s mostly matte black inside, so some details blend together. Remember this model is sealed – none of the panels open. In fact, no doors, hood or trunk open here at all, since it’s a fixed-resin model. So what you see through the windshield is all you get. It’s accurate and looks good, but you’ll be admiring it rather than poking around.

Functionality – 6/10

This SF90 Spider is purely a display piece. No doors, hoods, or compartments open (this is confirmed by the official description). The focus is on looks, not play. The model comes with a display base, and there’s an optional acrylic case you can purchase. The wheels are fixed in place (no rolling action). In hand, it feels solid and well-made, but it’s basically static. So while you can move and rotate it for viewing, there’s no mechanical action beyond that. It’s perfect for showcasing on a shelf or in a case, but if you want a “playable” model, this isn’t it.

Value – 8/10

Expect to pay around $500 for this limited-edition SF90. That matches its high quality. For comparison, BBR’s other SF90 Spiders range from about $500 up to $650 – for example, the Rosso Corsa red version was listed at $649.95, and a bright yellow convertible edition was about $599. All are similarly limited runs (this Magma version is just 90 pieces). Given the sealed resin build and hand-painted finish, the price is reasonable for collectors. It’s not cheap, but you’re paying for fine craftsmanship and scarcity. On the secondary market it goes for about the same. In the end, it’s a niche piece – great if you love the SF90 and BBR’s work, but probably overkill for casual buyers.

Pros

  • Rich detail: Rubber tires, accurate wheels, and all the right badges/vents make it very true to life.
  • Collector’s piece: Limited to just 90 units, with a display base (and optional case) for safekeeping.
  • Consistent quality: BBR’s fine hand-paint and fit/finish give it a premium feel.

Show-stopping paint: The red-to-black fade is executed flawlessly and really makes the model stand out

.

Cons

  • No open parts: As a sealed resin model, you can’t open any doors or hood. It’s display-only.
  • High price: At ~$500+, it’s pricey, especially compared to simpler models.
  • Dark cockpit: The mostly black interior (though accurate) can be hard to appreciate without shining a light on it.

Overall Score – 8.2/10

This Magma Red/Black SF90 Spider is a top-tier display model. It nails the exotic looks of Ferrari’s hybrid supercar with a stunning two-tone finish

. It’s not for everyone (no play features and a collector’s price), but for fans of Ferrari and high-quality scale models, it’s a real trophy piece
